On Wednesday May 27, 2020, the new digital platform called “WIPO PROOF” began operating, which is administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization -WIPO-.
“WIPO PROOF” is a digital tool that provides an evidentiary means that allows the existence and content of a digital file to be demonstrated at a specific date and time. This tool allows to prevent the appropriation and / or manipulation of said files and create a means of proof for future conflicts of legal relevance (that is, “WIPO PROOF” will function as a notary or fingerprint).
The files to which the tool can be applied include creations and elements such as trade secrets, film or television scripts, scores, artificial intelligence algorithms, large databases, or business records, which will be named and treated as intellectual assets.
Additionally, it is stated that the tool aims to offer protection focused not only at the time of marketing or distribution of the content, but also during its development phase, and in its different versions, and that, as reported by the WIPO, no file for which a fingerprint or digital proof is requested will be stored and / or read.
In relation to the operation of the platform, it should be borne in mind that any future user may enter the “WIPO PROOF” website to use it and that the rates established to access the service have been established in order to ensure that the platform is accessible to as many people as possible (The average fee is estimated to be around CLP $ 17,000 and COP $ 70,000 -USD $ 20.00).
