Colombia achieves historic collection for the cultural sector with $ 19.2 billion pesos.

Companies such as Amazon, Netflix, MTv Networks and Apple TV have benefited from the tax incentives promoted by the Government to boost the country’s audiovisual sector. These investments have generated 3,689 jobs.

On August 21, the 10th National Orange Economy Council was held in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Mompox, located in the department of Bolívar, led by the President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez. In this event, the balance sheet was delivered that makes the current government the one that has managed the most resources to strengthen the culture and the orange economy in the country with $ 19.2 billion through public financing, investment incentives and access to the foundership.

“The National Council of Orange Economy has allowed us to join forces (…) This coordinated work is what has led us to have historical budgets. We know that there are still challenges and therefore we have maintained tax incentives for companies that believe in the creative industries sector, such as exemption from income tax for seven years, “explained President Duque.

For her part, the Minister of Culture, Angélica Mayolo; indicated that the goal to close the four-year period is to reach an investment of more than $ 23 million in actions of the orange economy that allow greater employment related to culture and creativity.

Foncultura and Orange Development Areas

One of the great drivers to reactivate the cultural sector has been the consolidation of Foncultura, which currently has regulations through Decree 880 of 2021 and which seeks to generate equity in the distribution of resources, structure better projects and promote the sector in the 1,103 municipalities in Colombia. Through this fund administered by CoCrea, it is expected to raise $ 7,000 million for this year.

Another of the great agents of great relevance for the reactivation are the Orange Development Areas (DNA), which today has more than 73 of these defined DNAs and in cities such as Cali, Barranquilla, Medellín and Manizales among others, promoting the meeting of creators, entrepreneurs, infrastructures and cultural facilities around creative innovation, urban renewal and economic development.

Mayolo pointed out that the goal for this area is to leave 90 defined DNAs and 25 DNAs activated at the end of the four-year period, “we are working on the bill of social investment so that it is possible for the figure of works for tax to be developed in the Areas of Desarrollo Naranja, which will allow to bring more investments for culture and the creative economy in the territories ”, he added.

Likewise, the president, Iván Duque, was emphatic in stating that “Colombia is positioning itself as the number one country in Latin America in tax incentives for the development of creative industries, starting with the audiovisual industry, which in turn make them a benchmark for the generation of employment and investment in this sector “. Through the filming of these productions, more than 3,400 direct jobs have been created thanks to the creation of the Audiovisual Investment Certificates. The main investors include Amazon, Netflix, MTv Networks, Apple TV, Telemundo and Walt Disney Productions.

Convert Mompox into the cultural capital

Finally, the president announced that they are working on a project to convert Mompox into the cultural capital of the Caribbean Coast, for which more than $ 66,000 million will be invested.

The funds will be used for three specific works: the restoration of Calle del Medio, for $ 23,000 million; the construction of the Jazz Park in Mompox, for more than $ 33,000 million and the construction of the Mampuján Museum, located in the municipality of María La Baja, for $ 10,000 million.
